The term “mid-century modern design” was introduced in 1983 by American journalist Kara Greenberg in her book “Mid-century Modern: Furniture of the 1950's”. And, despite the fact that there was no single style of the middle of the century, the term mid-century modernism combined the work of designers and architects from the 1940s to the 1960s. Craftsmen of this period were largely connected with the general humanistic philosophy and the desire to simplify and improve the lives of middle-class people. In fact, the mid-century was the first style responding to a social demand and formed in the situation of a global change in the domain of furniture design. The grown-up mid-century modern design of the 1950s-1960s began to focus on the real needs and perceptions of modern human being and was very different from the modernism of the 1920s-1930s, which centered on the idea of whether it was functionalism or constructivism. The fusion of national and international in the work of genius Scandinavians led to the formation of so-called modernism or modern design "with a human face", the main goal of which was to create comfortable and convenient conditions for human life. Let and united by common ideas, mid-century in architecture, interior and subject design manifested itself in different ways. It was due to the fact that, despite the work of such universal authors as Alvar Aalto, Eero Saarinen, Arne Jacobsen and others, the middle of the 20th century became an important stage in separating these professions from each other.
